Privacy & analytics

No accounts, advertising profiles or sale of visitor information. Optional Google Analytics runs only after a positive choice.

Your analytics choice

Reading the choice saved in this browser…

John Matthews relies on your consent to load optional Google Analytics and use its audience reports. Until “Allow analytics” is chosen, the Google tag is not requested and nothing is sent to Google Analytics. Declining is available on the same terms and the choice can be changed here.

Cloudflare hosting

Cloudflare hosts, delivers and protects this static site. Like any web host, it processes ordinary web requests — including network and device information — to serve and secure each page. This happens whether or not analytics is allowed. Cloudflare Web Analytics is switched off.

Google Analytics 4

If you choose “Allow analytics”, this site loads Google Analytics property G-BVX9172J9J. It measures page views and on-site interactions alongside session, browser and device information. Google receives an IP address during collection, says it does not log or store it, and derives approximate location before discarding it. Google may set the first-party cookies _ga and _ga_<container-id>. This site limits those cookies to six months from the original choice and does not renew that expiry on each page view.

Advertising storage, advertising user data, advertising personalisation and Google Signals remain disabled by this site. The property’s user- and event-level data-retention setting is 14 months; Google’s standard aggregate reports are not governed by that setting. If you decline, or have not chosen, the Google tag is not requested and no Google measurement is sent.

Remembering the choice

The browser stores the choice — granted or denied — and the date it was made under flaneur.analytics-consent.v1. It contains no identifier and is not sent to the site or to another party. It exists only to honour the choice on later visits. The site asks again after six months; clearing this site’s browser data asks again sooner.

Changing from allow to decline updates Google’s consent state, removes accessible Google Analytics cookies from this domain, and reloads the page so the Google Analytics runtime is no longer active.
